 About HMI Background Information Hope Messengers International, Inc. has been founded in 2002 by Adrian Ghitta and a handful of friends from the Atlanta area. Intended to be a public supported charity, we hoped to gain widespread support from individuals and organizations in the USA and abroad. Any new entity which claims the "public charity" status has to prove that 80% or more of its funds are coming from "qualified" individuals, meaning from people outside the organization, the general public. After the test applied after the initial 5 years of activity, the IRS designated us to be a private foundation because the great majority of funds have been provided by the founding members. Programs Our programs focus primarily on education and poverty relief. We also contribute to social services initiatives for the Romanian community at large, both in Romania and abroad. Board of Directors We started out with 9 directors acting as volunteers. Being a Board member involves donating time and efforts to supporting our cause. After serving for a while, many directors retired. And since our status has become a non-profit private foundation, our services are sustained mainly from funds provided by Adrian Ghitta and his family and businesses. Adrian still serves as Founder and CEO. |
